Fire safety regulations are constantly evolving to address new risks and address flaws in prior standards. In March 2026, the industry saw one of the most significant updates in recent years with the introduction of the revised BS 8214:2026 standard. Unfortunately, many property owners, landlords, and even contractors are still unaware of these tighter regulations, putting them at risk of failing annual inspections, invalidating insurance policies, or in the worst-case scenario, loss of life and severe legal repercussions.
So, What’s Changed?
The updated BS 8214:2026 standard introduces stricter guidelines for specification, installation, and maintenance, including:
